Located 33 miles from Vacay Chalet, Cades Cove Loop Road is on our list of places to see when you visit the Gatlinburg area. Pack a picnic and head to Cades Cove where its main attraction is its 11 mile one-way scenic loop that circles the cove. This one lane road is open to drivers from sun up to sun down and has several pull-offs and parking lots. Bring your binoculars and enjoy the wildlife viewing, historic churches, cabins, pastures and gorgeous views of The Smoky Mountains.
In the warmer months, you can rent a bike or put on your walking shoes and enjoy Cades Cove Loop Road at your own pace. From May to September on Saturday and Wednesday mornings before 10 a.m., only bicyclists and hikers are allowed on the loop road.
The Visitor Center is open daily and is located near the midpoint of the Cades Cove Loop Road. Here you can get information on the various hiking paths, view the indoor and outdoor exhibits of southern mountain life and culture as well as historic structures such as a grist mill and the Becky Cable House. You will also find public restrooms and a bookstore where you can purchase fascinating literature about Cades Cove and the national park or sign up for a Ranger-led program.
No matter what time of year you visit, you will want to add Cades Cove to your itinerary.
